If you’ve ever seen a dentist, you might know that brushing and flossing your teeth is extremely important. However, did you know that there are a few things most Americans might be able to better when it comes to cleaning their teeth?
One crucial component of proper brushing is moving the head of your brush in small circular motions instead of up and down. Fortunately, most electric toothbrushes are made to spin in the same motion. It’s also important that you do not brush too hard. Otherwise, you could damage your teeth and your gums. Finally, did you know that most Americans don’t brush their pearly whites for long enough? Generally, you’ll need to brush for two minutes at a time.
Naturally, it’s also important that you floss your teeth at least once every day. Flossing can reach areas of your mouth that you shouldn’t clean with your brush. You’ll also need to remember to form your floss into a “c” shape. You should also move your floss up and down instead of pulling it back and forth. It’s also important that you use at least 18 inches of floss each time.
Finally, you should know that the order you brush and floss in isn’t really important, but there are arguments for both. Some recommend brushing first because doing so could let floss move fluoride around your teeth. Others claim that flossing first will help your brush remove more food particles. Ultimately, the decision is up to you.
